I want to share my favorite memory with Sam and I think this memory is my favorite because we were hoping and looking forward to a lot of fun times together in the future. It was May 2018. Sam came to Youth of Unity’s weekend retreat in Sonora. For some backstory these events are for the teens, lead and planned by the teens; and during the May retreat is when we elect new people to plan the next years worth of events. My friend Julia and I were running for the office, but we wanted one more person to run with us. Adoring and loving Sammy we somehow got it in his head to run for office, because we knew he had so much to offer and because selfishly we wanted to spend a weekend each month in his presence. This was the most exciting things to all 3 of us. SAM could be joining us for the next year. I imagined all the time we would spend, I imagined all the laughter, all the artistry. For many hours we all were euphoric imagining what memories we might make in the next year together. We soon found out that Sammy wasn’t eligible to run because it was HIS FIRST EVENT! It being his first event and him being so intent on planning the next ones shows how special of a person he is in itself. I’ll always remember the pure wholesome joy we felt at the thought of many more days together. I live over an hour away but after that I did see him a few times but I regret not speaking to him more. I miss Sam a lot and I always pictured there being more moments of him filling my life with joy and wisdom. There is ton of people he meant in this time that will always love him, all over California.
